There’s hundreds of cross news this describe day, from ongoing Russian election hacking to local weather alternate to poisoned food to alternate wars. To wrestle the perception that we’re marching toward the Apocalypse, news publishers are working devoted “simply news” sections or newsletters to counter the whole depressing stuff.

Now, Google is doing a model of this. As an experiment best within the US, Google Assistant will acknowledge to a ask to “Tell me one thing simply” by offering tales from the Alternatives Journalism Network, which compiles certain tales from a vary of media publishers and stores. It requires the frail “OK, Google” or “Howdy Google.”

It’s meant to work on any machine geared up with Google Assistant. In line with Google’s blog post:

The tales attain from a huge selection of media stores, curated and summarized by the Alternatives Journalism Network. They’re a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading the put collectively of alternate choices journalism, which highlights how complications are solvable and that doing greater is feasible. Alternatives journalism empowers and energizes audiences, serving to to wrestle unfavorable news fatigue. It’s the largest portion of a balanced news weight-reduction plan, so we’re exploring how one can incorporate more alternate choices journalism wherever you gain true of entry to Google News.

Attempting it this morning on Google Dwelling and Pixel phone, it labored inconsistently. It delivered when I said, “OK, Google tell me one thing simply,” but not for the phrase “tell me some simply news.” In the latter case, it supplied a more historic search result on the Pixel and said “Sorry, I don’t note” on Dwelling. But I’m obvious Google will repair that rapid.
